Why did you want to become a mentor?
As a former FYC mentor and mentee, I understand how frightening and challenging the social, personal, and academic transfer from the high school to the university level can be. As a mentee with first-year connections, I was mentored by an excellent mentor who continually provided support. My mentor ensured I was comfortable and confident during my first crucial weeks at Carleton, whether within a personal realm through uplifting messages or an academic sphere through tutoring/feedback sessions. Throughout my experience, I was given insight into different opportunities that I otherwise would be none the wiser to acknowledge or look for. Opportunities such as the general current bursary applications and the writing centre ensured and continue to ensure my success and attendance at Carleton University. During these unprecedented times, I hope to provide as much support as possible to students in all realms of student life (social, academic, career growth, etc.) to ensure their continual success at Carleton.
What is one thing you wished you knew in your first year?
In my first year, I wish I knew that an 8:30 AM class in university is very different from an 8:30 AM class in high school.
Fun fact about you!
I can hula hoop 32 hoops at once.
