Why did you want to become a mentor?
I wanted to become a Peer Mentor because of the experience I had through the mentorship network when I first started at Carleton. I started my studies in the middle of the pandemic; everything was online, and I completed the year at home. Having a peer mentor helped me feel more connected to the Carleton community and helped me navigate the first few weeks of the academic semester. The first-year connection program gave me the tools and support to transition into university comfortably. This year I wanted to be a Senior Peer Mentor not only to help new students coming to Carleton but also to help Peer Mentors in any way I could.
What is one thing you wished you knew in your first year?
One thing I wish I knew in my first year was the range of societies and clubs students can join to find their own community. Aside from the academic side of the university, I think it is imperative to foster relationships and participate in activities you enjoy!
Fun fact about you!
A fun fact about me is that I worked in an open pit gold mine in Northern Ontario for two summers!
