The importance of international migration as a policy area has been growing in recent decades. Ongoing massive displacement of migrants resulting from international societal change appears in the national and international media virtually on a daily basis (e.g. from Syria and more recently Venezuela). Host countries in Europe, the Americas and Australasia have responded with varying degrees of protectionism, creating legal and political turmoil connected to border security and the movement of undocumented migrants. We carry out interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research on effective ways of responding to diverse forms of migration, including through initiatives to select migrants, assessing claims to protection at the border, and supporting all migrants admitted.
