For the work in Connective Tissue Research, we used multi-modal, histochemical imaging techniques to investigate the effects of obesity and joint injury on the structure and composition of articular cartilage. For the study published in the Journal of Biomechanics, we used multi-photon laser scanning microscopy and found that cartilage cells perceived and responded differently to dynamic compared to static mechanical cues. Importantly, we show that the cells were able to quickly adapt volumetrically and morphologically to cyclical mechanical loads. These studies improve our understanding of how cartilage and cells respond to different biomechanical and biochemical perturbations, which may be used to establish the mechanism of the painful joint diseases such as osteoarthritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feel free to check out the articles through the hyperlinks above for more details.
