John Kofi Dapaah is a pianist crossing the boundaries of the classical and jazz world. John has <\/span>performed in recitals and concerts in Japan, Austria<\/span>, and throughout Canada<\/span>. He has played in <\/span>recital series such as <\/span>the Ottawa International Chamberfest<\/span>, <\/span>Cathedral Arts Series<\/span>, <\/span>Jugend am <\/span>Klavier <\/span>and <\/span>Music and Beyond <\/span>to name a few. John made his orchestral debut with the Gatineau <\/span>Conservatory Orchestra in a concert playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 23. Most recently, he <\/span>performed Tchaikovsky\u2019s Piano Conce<\/span>rto no. 1 with the Georg<\/span>ian Bay Symphony<\/span>. John has also <\/span>performed for dignitaries <\/span>such as the former <\/span>Governor Generals of Canada; Micha\u00eblle <\/span>Jean and <\/span>the David Johnston, and <\/span>numerous <\/span>Ambassador<\/span>s <\/span>to Canada. John\u2019s composed <\/span>work for string <\/span>quartet was perform<\/span>ed with choreography at Ottawa\u2019s National Arts Centre. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music has taken John on a voyage through many parts of the world. It has brought him to reflect <\/span>on a range of styles including classi<\/span>cal, jazz and gospel piano. He <\/span>began his classical piano <\/span>studies wi<\/span>th T<\/span>abuchi Masako in Muroran, Japan<\/span>. Upon his family<\/span>\u2019s relocation to Canada, John <\/span>continue<\/span>d <\/span>his stud<\/span>ies independently. He then enrolled and <\/span>obtain<\/span>ed <\/span>his Bachelor\u2019s in music at <\/span>Carleton University. At Carleton, <\/span>he <\/span>studied with classical pianists <\/span>Verna Jaco<\/span>bson and <\/span>Nicole <\/span>Presentey <\/span>as well as jazz pianists Steve Boudreau and Mark Ferguson<\/span>. Dapaah pursued the final <\/span>year of his undergraduate music studies at the Kunstuniversit\u00e4t Graz in Graz, Austria. <\/span>While in <\/span>Graz, he studied with Dr. Ei<\/span>ke Straub. <\/span>John <\/span>graduated with high honours from Carleton <\/span>in 2012<\/span>. <\/span>He then obtained his Master\u2019s at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. At <\/span>Schulich, he studied with Marina Mdivani, who was a pupil of Emil Gilel<\/span>s<\/span>. <\/span>John has played in <\/span>master classes <\/span>for Minsoo <\/span>Sohnn, Kyoko Hashimoto, and Corlenia Herrmann among others. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

John <\/span>has released 2 albums to date <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>his debut solo album<\/span>, \u201cReflections\u201d <\/span>and a jazz Christmas <\/span>album <\/span>\u201cHave Yourself A Jazzy Little Christmas\u201d <\/span>with his trio and vocalists Roxanne Goodman <\/span>and Micha<\/span>el Curtis Hanna.
