Around the world, a wide variety of Artist In-Residence programs are sponsored by universities, museums, galleries, theatres, government agencies and festivals, where artists, curators, and all manner of creative individuals are invited to spend a period time away from their usual environment and obligations.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/our-team\/2022-23-artist-in-residence-dr-hooshyar-khayam\/ill-air-2022-23-khayam\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11953\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam.jpg\" alt=\"Image of Hooshyar Khayam\" class=\"wp-image-11953\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam-160x106.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam-240x159.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam-400x265.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/Ill-AIR-2022-23-Khayam-360x238.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hooshyar-khayam.com\/site\/\">Dr. Hooshyar Khayam<\/a>, an Iranian musician, is an internationally renowned composer, pianist, teacher and producer.&nbsp; He works in contemporary classical, jazz, fusion, and world music styles and genres, and composes scores for film and theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Following the completion of his Doctorate of Musical Arts in composition at the University of Cincinnati in 2005, Dr. Khayam returned to Iran to begin a series of tours during which he worked and studied the music and culture of his native Iran and its neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Armenia and Georgia. He is now completing a second doctorate in Orchestral Conducting at the&nbsp;Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Critics around the globe have described Khayam&#8217;s music as avant-garde, experimental, hopeful, and magical.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cI have constantly worked halfway between my admiration of the music of the West and passion for the East,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">As Carleton Music\u2019s Artist-in-Residence, Dr. Khayam will teach a course on Intercultural Performance and Compositional Practice (MUSI 4200) and run a music ensemble.&nbsp; He will also give one or two masterclasses, take part in music auditions and juries, and, if it can be arranged, give a public concert.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Artist Residencies are programs that provide guest artists with a period of reflection, research, collaboration, presentation and\/or production.
