They are a vocalist, noisemaker, improviser, composer, sound designer, video artist, drag artist, curator, administrator, and producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt-400x300.png\" alt=\"Image of Olivia Shortt by Jenn Collins\" class=\"wp-image-13029\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt-400x300.png 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt-160x120.png 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt-240x180.png 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt-360x270.png 360w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/91\/tn-AIR-2024-Shortt.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo credit: Jenn Collins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortt was featured in the 2020 Winter edition of <i>Musicworks<\/i>&nbsp;Magazine and was described as a \u201cglittering, rising star in the exploratory music firmament.\u201d They have appeared on CBC Kids \u2018Gary the Unicorn and their voice has been used off-screen for Stephen King\u2019s \u2018In the Tall Grass\u2019 and Season 3 of \u2018Chucky\u2019; they made their Lincoln Center debut in 2018 with the International Contemporary Ensemble; they made their film debut, onscreen playing saxophone, in Atom Egoyan\u2019s 2019 film Guest of Honour; and recorded an album with their duo Stereoscope, two kilometres underground in the SnoLAB (an underground laboratory specializing in Neutrinos and dark matter physics in Northern Ontario, Canada). Shortt performed and premiered Raven Chacon\u2019s (Din\u00e9) \u2018For Olivia Shortt\u2019 at The Whitney Museum of American Art (NYC) as part of Chacon\u2019s series of solo works &#8216;For Zitk\u00e1la-\u0160\u00e1&#8217; during the 2022 Whitney Biennial and has performed the work at The Holland Festival (Amsterdam) and the Smithsonian\u2019s National Museum of the American Indian (Washington, DC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"elementToProof\">As Carleton Music\u2019s Artist-in-Residence, Olivia is teaching a course entitled <i>Music Producing 101<\/i>&nbsp;(MUSI 4200) and running the <i>Performer-Composer Lab<\/i>&nbsp;ensemble.&nbsp;They will also give a masterclass, present a concert at Carleton Dominion Chalmers Centre, take part in music auditions and juries, and schedule depending, can be available to speak with members of the Carleton community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Artist Residencies are programs that provide guest artists with a period of reflection, research, collaboration, presentation and\/or production.
