Yohannes Haile

Dr. Yohannes Haile earned BSc in Biology from the University of Asmara; M.Sc. in Molecular Microbiology and Aquatic Ecology from the Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology/ISATEC, University of Bremen, Germany; PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover/Hannover Medical School, Germany; after which he moved to Canada and pursued postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroinflammation/ Neuroimmunology and Cell Biology at the University of Alberta, Canada.
Following the postdoctoral fellowship, Yohannes continued working in capacities of research scientist at the University of Alberta, and a sessional lecturer of Human Anatomy at the King’s University in Edmonton, Canada. He delivered presentations in many national and international events and institutes such as NIH and Johns Hopkins University.
Currently, Dr. Haile is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University; and a Regulatory Scientist in Health Canada, where he assesses biologics-derived therapies including cell and gene therapy products. Dr. Haile received several prestigious awards including the 2021 Health Canada Awards of Excellence in recognition to the contribution to the improvement of the Health of Canadians. He also leads the Science and Regulatory Preparedness working group, which is a Health Canada wide initiative, and reports to Health Canada’s Science Advisor. Moreover, Yohannes represents Health Canada in the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) in a capacity of a member of subcommittee on Lymphohematopoietic Cells Standards.
