{"id":5115,"date":"2022-02-08T18:33:42","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T18:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/neuroscience\/?post_type=cu_people&#038;p=5115"},"modified":"2025-11-26T15:40:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T20:40:14","slug":"yohannes-haile","status":"publish","type":"cu_people","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/neuroscience\/people\/yohannes-haile\/","title":{"rendered":"Yohannes Haile"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"mb-6 cu-pageheader cu-component-updated md:mb-12\">\n    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 pb-5 after:w-10 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px\">\n                    \n             \n                \n            <\/h1>\n\n    \n    <\/header>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Yohannes Haile earned BSc in Biology from the University of Asmara; M.Sc. in Molecular Microbiology and Aquatic Ecology from the Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology\/ISATEC, University of Bremen, Germany; PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover\/Hannover Medical School, Germany; after which he moved to Canada and pursued postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroinflammation\/ Neuroimmunology and Cell Biology at the University of Alberta, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the postdoctoral fellowship, Yohannes continued working in capacities of research scientist at the University of Alberta, and a sessional lecturer of Human Anatomy at the King\u2019s University in Edmonton, Canada. He delivered presentations in many national and international events and institutes such as NIH and Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, Dr. Haile is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University; and a Regulatory Scientist in Health Canada, where he assesses biologics-derived therapies including cell and gene therapy products. Dr. Haile received several prestigious awards including the <em>2021 Health Canada Awards of Excellence<\/em> in recognition to the contribution to the improvement of the Health of Canadians. He also leads the <em>Science and Regulatory Preparedness working group<\/em>, which is a Health Canada wide initiative, and reports to Health Canada\u2019s Science Advisor.
