I primarily speak with clinicians from around the world to get an understanding of their patient flow and how CBS can bring value to their clinic’s and ultimately impact their patients’ lives.

Carleton is known for its student support services, however the Department of Neuroscience takes the cake for ancillary student support and engagement. From my first year, all the way to my last – what I recall about my experience with neuroscience classes, professors, and projects is the extended support that was always available to me. Whether it be extra office hours to review course material, support and guidance in my first research project, or help in navigating course selection/academic calendars – there was always a resource for me. Professors, faculty staff, and graduate students were always available for any inquiries or concerns (both personal and academic) that facilitated my success in the program. In comparison to my friends in other BSc degrees, I can confidently say Neuroscience had a tight-knit community that fostered my personal development.

Advice for Current Students

My advice for students pursuing something similar to what I’m doing would be to network. Put on your LinkedIn and Google Alerts for topics/people of interest in the space and don’t be afraid to reach out to them. Get an understanding of what they do, how they got there, opportunities they’re aware of, and/or simply make the connection. People love speaking about themselves if you can get their time. You’d be surprised by the amount of hands that have helped me get to where I am and I can confidently say it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t step out of my comfort zone. What’s the worst that’ll happen from a cold email or phone call – they don’t respond? You would have had the same result otherwise, might as well give it a shot.

[105

post-521","cu_people","type-cu_people","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cu_people_type-diversity-directory
["GET
