maximize specific subject matter or satisfy requirements of a minor (or two)<br>&#8211; learn a language or other widely applicable skill or knowledge base (e.g. writing, finances, culture, business)<br>&#8211; pursue certain professors, teaching styles, class sizes, online vs on campus format<br>&#8211; balance science courses with as much non-science content as possible<br>&#8211; get as much science-specific experience as possible<br>&#8211; fulfill certain admission requirements for desired post-undergraduate pathways<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><br><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Consider the following when planning for and registering in electives:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><br>&#8211; not all courses are offered every term or year<br>&#8211; generally speaking, you must meet the course prerequisites<br>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/courses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">course descriptions (including prerequisites and <em>some <\/em>registration restrictions) are available here.<\/a><br>&#8211; some courses have restrictions on them which prioritize or limit registration to certain programs<br>&#8211; all restrictions are displayed in the course description in Carleton Central&#8217;s timetable of offerings and you will get a warning when adding them to your worksheet if you do not meet the restriction<\/p>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"types-of-electives-in-neuroscience-programs\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Types of Electives in Neuroscience Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"advanced-science-faculty-elective\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Advanced Science Faculty Elective<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"applies-only-to-neuroscience-mental-health-20-credit-major-honours\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Applies <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">only<\/em><\/strong> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">to Neuroscience &amp; Mental Health 20-credit Major &amp; Honours<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be a 2000-level or above course offered by a Department in the <a href=\"https:\/\/science.carleton.ca\/about\/departments-schools-and-institutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Faculty of Science<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some exceptions apply &#8211; see Regulations page for details (more on that below).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some science-based GEOG or PSYC courses listed in the UG Calendar Regulations (more on that below).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NEUR courses <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">are<\/strong> permitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Counts toward Major CGPA and Overall CGPA.
