The Department of Neuroscience is seeking a contract instructor(s) for the summer 2015 semester for the courses listed below. Pursuant to Article 16.3 of the CUPE 4600 Unit 2 Collective Agreement, subject to Article 16.2 and 16.4 through 16.7, expressions of interest are invited from members of the CUPE 4600 bargaining unit and other interested persons. Candidates should be proficient with the English language and hold at least a M.Sc. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or a related field. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD and\/or those with relevant teaching experience at the university level. For those applicants who have not taught in the Department of Neuroscience, a letter of reference in support of your teaching ability is required.
 
Early summer term: May to June<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEUR 1201 [0.5 credit]<\/strong>
Introduction to Mental Health and Disease<\/strong>
Common mental health diseases; clinical symptoms of disease, genetic, developmental, experiential and environmental risk factors contributing to disease; the neurobiological basis of disease. Topics may include depression, Alzheimer\u2019s Disease, schizophrenia and ADHD. Lecture six hours a week<\/strong>.
 
Late summer term: July to August<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEUR 2200 [0.5 credit]<\/strong>
Biological Foundations of Behaviour<\/strong>
How molecular, cellular, and systems-level processes primarily within the brain underlie sensation, movement, motivation, emotion, learning and cognition.
Precludes additional credit for PSYC 2200.
Prerequisite(s): PSYC 1001 or NEUR 1201, or permission of the Department.
Lectures six hours a week<\/strong>.
 
NEUR 3306 [0.5 credit]<\/strong>
The Neural basis of Addiction<\/strong>
How substance and behavioural addictions impact neural function to ultimately lead to the neuropathology of addiction in vulnerable populations. The neurobiological mechanism of action of each drug class; contemporary neurobiological theories of addiction.
Prerequisite(s): NEUR 2200 or PSYC 2200.
Lectures six hours a week.<\/strong>
