He received his MSc from the University of Yaound\u00e9, Cameroon and his PhD from the Lund Institute of Technology, Sweden. He is cross-appointed to the Carleton Institute of African Studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before joining Carleton, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Saskatoon, SK) and the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, MB). Tsopmo&#8217;s research focuses on the valorization of food by-products; biomass; enhanced nutritional quality of foods; analysis and bioavailability of nutrients. He has a special interest in the biological function of food-derived peptides as they relate to food structures and the reduction of disease risk factors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tsopmo&#8217;s ongoing collaborative work with the University of Dschang, Cameroon, is centred on three main axes: the synthesis of functional organic materials and their antibacterial and photovoltaic properties; the discovery of new natural compounds from medicinal, biosynthesis, biological activity, and structure-activity relationships; and nutritional quality of lipids as influenced by transformation and preservation processes, stabilization of edible oils, and optimization of the production of malted flours for complementary foods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of his awards include the International Programme in the Chemical Sciences (IPICS CAM 02) Award to attend the Nobel Prize ceremony; the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Visiting Fellowship; and the Manitoba Institute of Child Health Postdoctoral Fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tsopmo has been the chair of the Canadian section of the American Oil Chemistry Society; and an advisory board member of the Culinology and Food Science program at Algonquin College.
