Thomas started at Carleton in fall 2023 after completing a PhD in Sociology at the University of Calgary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her doctoral research connected her immigration law background and Pan-African critical perspective on race with the sociology of care work. It used intersectionality theory to compare how surveillance in the form of pre-employment screening impacts the lives and employment choices of undocumented Caribbean women care workers in Canada and the U.S. within a context of increased immigrant surveillance and nativism.
