Davis was recognized for his valuable contributions to the promotion of higher education in developing countries and his distinguished academic career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you are not sure what you are going to do with your life, might I suggest that you consider working side by side with people in the developing world and help them realize their dreams for their countries,\u201d Davis said in his address. \u201cI did it for 10 years and it changed my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\">\n<h2>Advocating for Children\u2019s Rights<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerison Lansdown, founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crae.org.uk\/\">Children\u2019s Rights Alliance for England<\/a>, received an honorary degree at the afternoon ceremony. Lansdown was acknowledged for her extraordinary leadership in advocating for children\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Josh Majerle graduated from <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/arthistory\/\">Carleton\u2019s Art History<\/a> program this morning. He had some important takeaways from his time as a Raven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDo something you enjoy, not necessarily what you think will benefit [financially] in the long run,\u201d Majerle said. \u201cIf it\u2019s something you enjoy, you\u2019ll love doing it for life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHonestly, the tunnels here [on campus] are awesome, especially during the winter,\u201d said Jamie Richard, who graduated from <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/iis\/programs-of-study\/child-studies\/\">Carleton\u2019s Child Studies<\/a> program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\">\n<h2>Dreams of Making a Difference<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the near future, Richard said she would like to join Child Protective Services or work closely with youth who live on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George Milkovich, who came to Carleton from Pennsylvania, U.S.A, said he really enjoyed his time in <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/filmstudies\/\">Carleton\u2019s Film Studies<\/a> program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll the professors are so down to Earth and easy to talk to,\u201d Milkovich said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s ceremonies were extra special for Interim President Alastair Summerlee- it was his final day as Carleton University\u2019s president. His position will be passed on to Carleton\u2019s next president, Benoit-Antoine Bacon, on July 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been able to witness the incredible joy that the students and their families feel about being here and about their time at Carleton,\u201d Summerlee said in the Fieldhouse. \u201cIt\u2019s been an incredible journey for me \u2026 I have really appreciated being here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summerlee will continue working at Carleton, transitioning into his role as a professor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of students from Carleton\u2019s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) graduated on June 15, capping off an exciting week at Spring Convocation where over 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students received their degrees.
