As well as helping fund major, multi-year research projects, CREWW offers incubator grants for researchers in the early stages of a project. Small groups gather for five days to focus on their work with minimal distractions. The setting is tranquil and the company supportive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou can share what you are working on and any challenges,\u201d Nardon enthuses. \u201cIt can be a fantastic boost for your creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\u2019s also developing a \u201cfriendly peer review group\u201d in which participants receive feedback on academic papers before submitting them to journals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGetting published is such a competitive process. The more feedback you get prior to submission, the better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new digital presence will energize the centre\u2019s distance education component.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull wp-image-50268 size-full w-screen ml-offset-center cu-max-w-child-max px-4 md:px-6 lg:px-12\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5.jpg\" alt=\"Digital Media Storytelling\" class=\"wp-image-50268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5-400x227.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5-768x435.jpg 768w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5-700x397.jpg 700w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/digital-media-storytelling-1200w-5-200x113.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"building-a-new-digital-presence\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building a New Digital Presence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter trying different approaches, we\u2019re creating a series of monthly videos and podcasts that, because they will be freely available on the CREWW website, will help us connect with a much wider audience,\u201d Nardon reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nardon is proud of the value CREWW adds to Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe create a multidisciplinary space within the university for researchers who are interested in different issues relating to women and work to come together and spark new and different ideas and collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the process,\u201d she adds, \u201cwe also offer an important expertise on gender and work that can be leveraged in different ways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For women at Carleton and in the community seeking to develop leadership and strategic planning skills, the centre currently offers two programs twice a year &#8211; the five-day Advancing Women in Leadership and two-day Thinking Like a Futurist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re always evaluating our programs to ensure they\u2019re relevant. As workplaces evolve, the centre does too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nardon identifies recent demographic shifts and changes in mobility as major new influences on workplaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAn increased number of immigrants, refugees and women of different cultures creates new situations that require new ways of thinking and communicating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, when it comes to change at CREWW, Nardon is proceeding with care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCREWW has been doing many things very well,\u201d she says, \u201cand it\u2019s going to continue to do those things.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thinking globally and building mutually supportive connections come naturally to Luciara Nardon, and she\u2019s bringing those strengths to her new role as director of Carleton\u2019s Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work (CREWW).
