Carleton University alumna and former Ravens water polo star, Waneek Horn-Miller, has been inducted into the Canada Sports Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a gold medal performance at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg as a member of the women\u2019s national water polo team, Horn-Miller went on to serve as co-captain of the first Canadian women\u2019s Olympic water polo team that finished fifth at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She then captained the Canadian team to a world championship bronze medal in Japan in 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horn-Miller is the first water polo player to receive the honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inducted into the Ravens Hall of Fame<\/a> in 2014, Horn-Miller was Carleton\u2019s Female Athlete of the Year in 1994-1995, 1995-1996 and 1996-1997. In the same three-year period she was the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) MVP and first team All Star winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1990-1997, Horn-Miller won 20 gold medals at the North American Indigenous Games, 19 for water polo and one for rifle shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Kahnawake, Que., Horn-Miller graduated with a BA from Carleton in 2000. She is the first Mohawk woman to compete in an Olympic Games and is a vocal advocate for Indigenous sport in Canada and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n
