Carleton University student Nguyen Ha Nhu My has won the Zonta Club of Ottawa Jane M. Klausman (JMK) Women in Business Scholarship<\/a> to support her endeavours as a female entrepreneur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born and raised in Vietnam, Nguyen decided to attend Carleton\u2019s Technology Innovation Management<\/a> program to help her apply business skills to her technology company, a platform that connects students with vocational and hobby courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI feel very lucky to be a part of this program . . . this will help me a lot in the future,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cA woman doesn\u2019t have much advantage in this field.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Zonta offers scholarships to empower women as professionals and academics. The (JMK) Women in Business Scholarship program helps women pursue undergraduate and master’s degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers getting from the classroom to the boardroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scholarship was established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, N.Y., and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian. Zonta annually awards up to 32 scholarships of US $2,000 each at the district\/region level and six international scholarships in the amount of US $8,000 each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was really surprised, and I feel very honoured to get it,\u201d says Nguyen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEspecially as a Vietnamese student, winning a prize over many other Canadian and international candidates is huge for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIM alumna Renuka Gamage, chairperson of the scholarship committee, invited Carleton\u2019s female TIM students to apply. Gamage became a member of the Zonta Club of Ottawa in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cZonta scholarships enable women to have access to all resources and representation in decision-making positions on an equal basis,\u201d Gamage says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Nguyen wants to learn more about business environments in Canada. Thanks to Zonta, she will be nominated at the District level and if she wins, will also have an opportunity to be awarded an international scholarship. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
