\n Throwback 2019 Draws Crowds of Alumni Back to Campus\n <\/h1>\n \n <\/header>\n <\/div>\n\n \n <\/path>\n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/div>\n\n \n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University welcomed thousands of people to campus for the week-long 2019 Homecoming that stretched through mid-September and celebrated achievements through the decades.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cIt was inspiring to see so many members of the Carleton community join us at Throwback this past week,\u201d says Mark Savenkoff, director of Alumni and Donor Relations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\u201cThe energy on campus was tremendous as alumni reminisced with one another and shared stories about their time at Carleton. Our alumni are amazing, engaged members of their communities and it was a pleasure to welcome them back home<\/em> for a few days.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From art gallery exhibitions and reunions to alumni mixers \u2013 there was an event to appeal to everyone at Throwback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kickoff barbeque ensured that no one had a case of the Monday blahs as students, faculty and staff enjoyed a festive lunch in the Tory Quad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local employers had the opportunity to engage with career-minded students in Alumni Hall during Tuesday\u2019s daytime job fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, as part of Cinquecento: Carleton Celebrates Leonardo da Vinci<\/a>,<\/em> artist Francois Pelletier began his multi-day effort to recreate da Vinci\u2019s portrait of Lucrezia Crivelli on the floor of the University Centre Galleria. Thursday evening, the School of Journalism and Communication<\/a> hosted the 2019 edition of the Attallah Lecture<\/a>, featuring Lilie Chouliaraki, chair of the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics, who presented her talk War on Mobile Phones: Technology and Truth in the Age of Digital Witnessing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weekday Throwback events wrapped with a timely Currents Lecture on the topic of the federal election. Hosted by the Faculty of Public Affairs<\/a>, the lecture featured alumnus David Coletto, chief executive officer of Abacus Data, joined by panel members Anne McGrath, NDP strategist and associate at Hill+Knowlton Strategies; Tim Powers, vice-chairman of Summa Strategies; and Paul Thomas, senior research associate at the Samara Centre for Democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the weather seemed to be in the Homecoming spirit on Saturday, as alumni from throughout the decades came together to toast anniversaries stretching from 25 to 65-years at the Milestone Anniversary Celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dedicated fans took advantage of the beautiful day to enjoy Tragically Hip tribute band Little Bones, food trucks and local craft brews during the Ravens Rally ahead of a Ravens football game against the Waterloo Warriors, who won 34-24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the week drew to a close, the celebrations headed downtown on Sunday as the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre unveiled the restoration of its 5,200-pipe Casavant organ with a lecture, concert and building tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
