href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kinamagwin.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/em><\/a>, a revitalized long-term Indigenous strategy with 41 Calls to Action to make Carleton a more welcoming space for current and future Indigenous students and faculty members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kinamagwin.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Indigenous learners and bring Indigenous knowledge into classrooms following the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission\u2019s final report in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/2018\/cu-indigenous-strategic-initiatives-committee\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Carleton joined this collective movement in 2018<\/a> by establishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Carleton University Strategic Indigenous Initiatives Committee (CUSIIC)<\/a>. <em>Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/em> is the product of an 18-month collaborative process undertaken by CUSIIC, which faced a monumental and significant task: to revitalize Carleton\u2019s Indigenous strategy and re-energize relationships with Indigenous communities in Algonquin territory and across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by three collaborative leaders\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/people\/benny-michaud\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Benny Michaud<\/a> (assistant director, Indigenous Initiatives, Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities), <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/people\/kahente-horn-miller\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Kahente Horn-Miller<\/a> (School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies) and Provost and Vice-President (Academic) <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/people\/jerry-tomberlin\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Jerry Tomberlin<\/a>\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/committee-members\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">broad and inclusive committee<\/a> included First Nations, M\u00e9tis and Inuit members from local communities, as well as Carleton faculty, professional services staff and id=\"building-on-meaningful-dialogue\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building on Meaningful Dialogue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the 2018-\u201819 year, more than 600 Indigenous and non-Indigenous people from within the university and the broader Indigenous community participated in more than 40 consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This process yielded extensive qualitative data, which were categorized into themes that are threaded throughout the final report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-66253\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" relationship building that will serve us well as we move forward to implement the recommendations. The co-chairs also presented regular updates at meetings of the Board of Governors and Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At their year-end meeting in November 2018, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/indigenousinitiatives\/2018\/board-supports-committee\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Board passed a motion<\/a> underscoring its full support for the work of CUSIIC. She writes about the meaning of the title, <em>Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/em>, which translates to \u201clearning together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe are all connected, and when we can learn together with open minds and open hearts, the outlook will be brighter,\u201d wrote Dumont-Hill.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The committee co-chairs also wrote about the meaning of <em>Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/em> in a message to the Carleton community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe meaning of <em>Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/em> is a powerful representation of the work Carleton has undertaken to learn difficult truths about our shared past.
