We sat down with four of these exemplary Ravens to find out what lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"stanley-mayambo-health-science\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stanley Mayambo (Health Science)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"mens-basketball-23-guard\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Men\u2019s Basketball #23 (Guard)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision to play at Carleton was a given in Grade 12 for Fredericton-born athlete Stanley Mayambo.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI decided for my goals of playing basketball professionally, the best place for me to go was Carleton,\u201d said Mayambo.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>After moving to Ottawa in the summer of 2015, he quickly realized to succeed on Carleton\u2019s basketball team he had to constantly improve himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-67353\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5.jpg\" alt=\"Stanley Mayambo\" class=\"wp-image-67353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5-400x227.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5-768x435.jpg 768w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5-700x397.jpg 700w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/162\/student-athlete-grads-2020-1200w-5-200x113.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Stanley Mayambo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe best thing about Carleton is that you are \u2018always on point, on the ball.\u2019 The talent level is so deep that you can\u2019t really ever relax.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton\u2019s basketball team has won 15 of 18 national men\u2019s championships, more than any other division in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his third year, the Ravens lost in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe learned a lot from that, just like knowing that we couldn&#8217;t get complacent,\u201d said Mayambo.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYou have to prepare yourself mentally for things to go really bad. Keeping that mental sharpness at all times and mental preparation so that you\u2019re really consistent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Even though the court was all-consuming over the past five years, Stanley said off-court experiences were equally important. It was just me hanging out with my friends and playing hockey,\u201d said Scott.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt was an honour to be the captain of that group of girls.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>From playing hockey every weekend to having sleepovers at teammates\u2019 houses, spending time with the team became Scott\u2019s favourite part about university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe went to Moncton last summer,\u201d recalls Scott. \u201cWe never really did the whole faraway trips. We took a plane there and we bussed around. We were together the whole time. We won all of our games there and it was just like a really fun team bonding experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a female student-athlete, Scott wants to encourage other young women to pursue their dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI would just encourage young female athletes to keep pushing boundaries and to continue playing the sport they love,\u201d said Scott. \u201cI would encourage them to stand up for what is right and to never back down in the face of adversity.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Scott will be going to the University of Ottawa for a Master of Health Sciences in Physiotherapy.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image (Guard)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Basketball has always been a part of Munis Tutu\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From playing at La Lumiere School in Indiana to receiving a basketball scholarship and playing at Loyola Marymount, Tutu\u2019s journey led him to become one of Carleton\u2019s top 10 men\u2019s basketball players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComing to Carleton was honestly one of my best (decisions) I class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI think one thing that is always gonna stick with me is just how Dave (Smart) always just preached to us all the hard work that we put into basketball, we have to do the same thing off the court,\u201d said Tutu.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs hard as I work on the court, I have to work off the court. That&#8217;s how I&#8217;m going to be (a) successful person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To succeed on the court, Tutu would put in countless hours in the gym or practices.
