href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chancellor\/profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yaprak Baltacio\u011flu<\/a> has been reappointed as Carleton\u2019s Chancellor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An alumna of Carleton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/sppa\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA)<\/a>, Baltacio\u011flu &nbsp;was appointed Carleton\u2019s 12<sup>th<\/sup> Chancellor in 2018 after serving as Canada\u2019s Secretary of the Treasury Board from 2012 to 2018, where she provided advice and recommendations to the Treasury Board committee of ministers on how the federal government spends money on programs and services, how it regulates and how it is managed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image students, and serves as an ambassador for the university. She became interested in Canadian democracy and applied to do a Master\u2019s in Public Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCarleton gave me that break,\u201d she recalled in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThey gave me a degree, professional contacts and confidence, which is no small thing. They really supported me as a young woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Carleton also introduced her to the public service. She was recommended for a term position at the Public Service Commission by one of her professors. She embarked on a career that included work in six departments on policy topics ranging from agriculture and food to transport and infrastructure, environment and climate change, and social policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon her retirement in 2018, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted: \u201cFor nearly 30 years, Yaprak Baltacio\u011flu served Canadians with skill, dedication and pride.
