\n Carleton Engineering Professor Jagmohan Humar Named to the Order of Canada\n <\/h1>\n \n <\/header>\n <\/div>\n\n \n <\/path>\n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/div>\n\n \n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University\u2019s Jagmohan Humar<\/a>, a Distinguished Research Professor in Engineering, has been named a member of the Order of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Chancellor\u2019s Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is being celebrated for his contributions to structural engineering, commitment to education and longstanding service as a community leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have a deep sense of awe and humility at being included in a list of giants of Canadian society in so many different fields of endeavour,\u201d says Humar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first thought that came to my mind as I learned of my appointment . . . was a deep sense of gratitude to Carleton, my home for over 45 years that provided me the opportunity to contribute in my own modest way to the country, as well as to interact with young minds aspiring to learn and make their own mark in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dean Larry Kostiuk says Humar\u2019s many accomplishments have made a tremendous impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn behalf of Carleton and the Faculty of Engineering and Design, I\u2019m extremely proud to congratulate Prof. Humar in being named to the Order of Canada,\u201d says Kostiuk.<\/p>\n\n\n

Gov. Gen Julie Payette announced 114 new appointments to the Order of Canada on Nov. 27, 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, recipients will be invited to a future ceremony to accept their insignia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William (Bill) John Fox<\/a> was named as a member of the Order of Canada. He is celebrated for fostering a greater understanding of communications principles within the public and private sectors and for furthering student opportunities in political management and journalism. Fox has a doctorate in Communication and a master\u2019s in Journalism from Carleton, He is a public affairs consultant and a program fellow at Carleton\u2019s Clayton H. Riddell Graduate Program in Political Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among Carleton\u2019s honorary degree recipients, academic and politician Monique B\u00e9gin and actor Tom Jackson were both named as Companions to the Order of Canada, which are promotions within the Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B\u00e9gin is celebrated for her lifelong contributions to public health, education and global human rights, and for consistently strengthening Canada\u2019s international reputation in these fields. Jackson is cited for his prolific career as an actor and singer, and for his philanthropic initiatives supporting underprivileged people across Canada and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carleton alumnus Gordon Hicks was also named as a member of the Order of Canada. A mechanical engineering graduate, he is the CEO of Markham, Ont.-based BGIS. Hicks is celebrated for his environmental leadership in the real estate industry, mental health advocacy and community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth, the Order of Canada is the pillar of the Canadian honours system<\/a>. Becoming a member recognizes outstanding contributions at the local or regional level or in a special field of activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
