\n Carleton University Honours 2021 Graduates in Virtual Celebrations\n <\/h1>\n \n <\/header>\n <\/div>\n\n \n <\/path>\n <\/path>\n <\/svg>\n <\/div>\n\n \n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University is honouring more than 5,600 graduates with virtual celebrations on the Graduation Celebration website<\/a> throughout the week of June 21 to 25, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The graduation hub will feature congratulatory videos, a social media wall using the #CarletonGrads2021<\/strong> hashtag, a departmental events calendar, profiles of great grads and remarks from this year\u2019s seven honorary degree recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlease join us in celebration of the outstanding accomplishments of our graduates, who have persevered in the face of an extremely challenging year,\u201d said President Benoit-Antoine Bacon.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a very special milestone for them and for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\u201cTogether we have overcome a great deal. The day where in-person celebrations will again be possible is not that far away, and we will make sure that all students in the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021 have an opportunity to cross the stage to the cheers of their loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The website will feature an Indigenous blessing led by Algonquin Elder Barbara Dumont-Hill, as well as a traditional honour song from Theland Kicknosway. There will also be congratulatory video messages from the President, Chancellor Yaprak Baltacioglu, Board Chair Dan Fortin, Provost Jerry Tomberlin and the faculty deans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the celebration week, a different faculty will be highlighted each day. On that morning, graduates in the designated faculty will receive an email with a link to a personalized online experience they can share with family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n

Honorary Degree Recipients <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carleton will also present seven honorary degrees to recipients chosen for amazing contributions to their chosen fields and Canadian society. Their recorded remarks will be uploaded to the Grad Celebration website alongside their bios on June 18, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s honorees include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chantal H\u00e9bert, who will be recognized for a distinguished career in journalism and political commentary.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/figure><\/td>
Stephen A. Jarislowsky, who will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to the philanthropic sector and his outstanding leadership in good business education and ethical finance.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/figure><\/td>
Monique Leroux, who will be recognized for her accomplished leadership in the world of business and her service as an inspiring role model and mentor to subsequent generations.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/figure><\/td>
Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard, who will be recognized for her outstanding contributions to racial and cultural equality, diversity and inclusion at all levels of Canadian society.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/figure><\/td>
Harriet Burdett-Moulton, who will be recognized for her distinguished career in architecture, especially centred on Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian Arctic.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/figure><\/td>
The Honourable Sheilah L. Martin, who will be recognized for her distinguished career in Canadian law, championing legal and judicial education, women\u2019s rights, diversity, equality and Indigenous rights.<\/td><\/tr>

June B. Pimm will be recognized for her distinguished career in Developmental Psychology devoted to child advocacy, with a particular focus on helping children on the autism spectrum, as well as their parents and educators.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
