Over the past decade, Carleton University has made it a priority to ensure that students, faculty and staff are immersed in a supportive, safe and healthy workplace culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wide range of initiatives launched in recent years focus on everything from physical and mental health<\/a> to professional and leadership development<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it’s joining a lunch-time yoga class or a recreational sports league, choosing to take the stairs instead of an elevator, attending a workshop<\/a> on work-life balance, mental health training or a seminar on dealing with financial challenges, members of the Carleton community are encouraged to participate in programs that are designed to facilitate holistic health and wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The overarching message of this movement is clear: Carleton is more than a collection of buildings and individuals; it’s a place where people can grow and develop, and contribute to teams doing meaningful work.<\/p>\n\n\n

“We’ve grown the culture to focus on health promotion, mental health and work-life balance,” said Ed Kane<\/a>, the university’s assistant vice-president (University Services) and chair of Carleton’s Healthy Workplace<\/a> committee.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

“It’s been a slow organic process from the early days. We see ourselves becoming a leader in higher education and in Canada as a healthy workplace.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
