He <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/sjc\/2021\/award-winning-cbc-ottawa-anchor-adrian-harewood-to-join-carletons-journalism-faculty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">joined Carleton\u2019s<\/a> academic faculty in July 2021, and says that while starting a new role in a pandemic has been challenging, his experiences in virtual and in-person classrooms has made the transition worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As he gets to know new colleagues and students, Harewood says he\u2019s keen to bridge the gap between the two using the common theme of resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m hoping to share the message with students that whatever you think about instructors, they are fallible,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEvery human being faces challenges and struggles, and we all have our strengths and weaknesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Another key takeaway from his talk will be the importance of community. Regardless of who you are, you are who you are because of community and because of the people who have surrounded you.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI have taken a rather circuitous route to where I am today, but we all have different paths. The more we can do to understand our varied experiences, the richer we will be.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Adrian Harewood\u2019s \u201cThe Storyteller Shares His Story\u201d takes place from noon to 1 p.m. on Feb. 9.
