At this year\u2019s fall convocation, more than 1,200 Carleton students from the Class of 2022 are receiving degrees that recognize their hard work and commitment to education. Carleton awards numerous medals to honour the dedication of students who have performed exceptionally in their studies.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Oct. 21, Carleton\u2019s Senate met to confer the degrees of the graduating class and announced this year\u2019s winners, including students recognized with the Governor General\u2019s, Chancellor\u2019s, President\u2019s, and University medals. The recipients share their reactions to the honours, below. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor General\u2019s Medal & <\/strong>University Medal for Outstanding Graduate Work (Doctoral Level)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“Winning the Governor General\u2019s Gold Medal is an incredible honour that I never expected. It speaks more to the people that have surrounded me over these past few years than to me as an individual. Completing my doctoral research and winning this award would not have been possible without the support of my colleagues and without the efforts of the Herongate Tenant Coalition. I have worked and studied on the Carleton campus over a 15-year period and winning this medal is a sweet way to depart from my home away from home in Ottawa, on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin land.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

“I am honoured to have my efforts recognized, and grateful to have had the opportunity to study at Carleton University. This medal is such a beautiful outside recognition of the strength, perseverance, and confidence that earning this degree already gave me. As a lifelong learner, I really enjoyed the challenge that my courses gave me, but there were still days where I had to push myself to keep going. Winning this medal means I showed up not only for myself, but for others as an example of what is possible through hard work and determination.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

“To me, winning this medal represents the pride I feel graduating from Carleton University. It shows how I truly enjoyed my time learning here and made the most of my education (even when it was online). “My interest in architecture emerged long ago in my pre-teen years. Sixty years later not only have I now fulfilled my lifelong crazy dream of earning a degree in this field, but the award of a President\u2019s Medal reminds me that sometimes our dreams can come true. All it took was a passion for the subject, an HTA program and faculty that provided a superb pathway for my journey and an internal focus and drive to undertake the incredible amount of hard work necessary. I am truly honoured to receive the medal and it confirms that on occasion there is gold at the end of the rainbow\u2014if you work hard enough for it.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
