href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/2013\/05\/28\/carleton-students-sweep-council-of-ontario-universities-idea-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\">prosthetic hand<\/a> produced on a 3D printer to a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/story\/accessible-ideas\/\" target=\"_blank\">height-adjustable moveable kitchen workspace<\/a>, Carleton students have had tremendous success over the years at the Innovative Designs for Accessibility (IDeA) competition, where students are asked to develop innovative, cost-effective and practical solutions to accessibility-related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Carleton students have placed first in the IDeA competition every year since its inception in 2012, with at least two Carleton teams finishing in the top three each year since 2013.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Now they&#8217;ll have a chance to showcase their creativity on a larger scale as the provincial IDeA program, previously co-ordinated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/cou.on.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Council of Ontario Universities<\/a>, is reborn as a national initiative managed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.univcan.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Universities Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full We need our students to innovate, and to bring their ideas to fruition. The IDeA competition will help remove barriers to accessibility and accelerate innovation. (The) focus on end users&#8217; needs should focus on &#8216;extreme users&#8217; \u2014&nbsp;people with the most difficulties.
