His project was a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/architecture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism<\/a>\u2019s Graduate 2017-2018 Gateway Design Studio. Last year, her student <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/story\/here-and-now-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jesse Bird won the AIA\u2019s Here + Now Competition<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition jury praised Yan\u2019s project by stating, \u201cThis adaptive reuse project utilizes the heat from making glass to warm the building and save on energy; a superb adaptation for the Ottawan&nbsp;climate. The buildings\u2019 programs and systems are well designed and tailored for each other.
