As the students come from a variety of backgrounds, they take an interdisciplinary problem-solving approach and often work with community groups, allowing them to tackle these real-life issues head on.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>[wide-image url=&#8221;https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/healthissues.jpg&#8221;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One group of master\u2019s students is researching whether e-cigarettes pose health problems. So far, the group\u2019s preliminary research shows that there is a research gap in the area of long-term care for rural environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group is hoping their project will make a significant contribution to Almonte General Hospital\u2019s Quality Improvement Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIf we are successful in finding a relationship between the social identity of staff\/volunteers and the social engagement of residents, this information may provide staff and volunteers with an appreciation of their role as active participants in creating a community-fostering long-term care environment,\u201d says student Rima Kandar.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From e-cigarettes and vaccinations to the quality of health care in rural communities, Carleton University graduate students are tackling some timely issues with a wide range of research.
