Student Leadership Conference<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;with keynote speaker Col. Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian to walk in space, on Jan. 27, 2018. SOAR! focuses on developing leadership potential. Aimed at both new and seasoned student leaders, it challenges previous notions and theories about leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hadfield will also be participating in a free evening event open to faculty, staff, students and alumni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Media are invited to attend the events and are required to RSVP to <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:leadership@carleton.ca\"><strong>leadership@carleton.ca<\/strong><\/a><strong>. No audio or visual recording of Hadfield is permitted. Photography will only be permitted during the first two minutes of the keynote addresses.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SOAR! Chris Hadfield was one of four Canadians selected to become an astronaut. He was the voice of mission control for 25 space shuttle missions. From 1996 to 2000, he was chief astronaut for the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and later NASA\u2019s director of operations. On his spacewalk in 2001, he installed the Canadarm2, the Canadian-built robotic arm, on the International Space Station (ISS). He served as chief of robotics at the NASA from 2003 to 2006 and became the first Canadian to command ISS in 2013. He is a&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em>&nbsp;bestselling author.
