The majority of strategic goals have been completed. It is expected that a strategic planning process will be established in 2018-\u201819.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"advisory-committee-on-the-provost-and-vice-president-academic\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advisory Committee on the Provost and Vice-President (Academic):<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Board approved a recommendation that board members Lynn Honsberger and Peter Dinsdale be appointed as community-at-large members for the Advisory Committee on the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) search. The committee also includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>President and Vice-Chancellor, chair of the committee ex officio; Benoit-Antoine Bacon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One member of the staff of the university (not a faculty member or professional librarian and not reporting directly to a VP), selected by the president<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One professional librarian elected by Senate \u2013 Janice Scammell<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One full-time faculty member from each faculty, at least two of whom hold the rank of full professor, elected by Senate:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty of Engineering and Design \u2013 Adrian Chan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty of Science \u2013 Patrice Smith<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sprott School of Business \u2013 Howard Nemiroff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences \u2013 Mike Brklacich<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty of Public Affairs \u2013 Mary Fancoli<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One senior administrator and one dean, elected by the vice-president (Academic) and Research Committee \u2013 Suzanne Blanchard and Pauline Rankin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One undergraduate student and one graduate student, elected by Senate in September<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A website will be established to provide updates to the community throughout the process.&nbsp; The University Secretary will serve as secretary to the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"board-membership-2018-19\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Board Membership 2018-\u201819:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following individuals were approved as new members of the Board:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Administrative Staff \u2013 Nina Karhu for a three-year term effective July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2021<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic Staff \u2013 Jonathan Malloy for a three-year term effective July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2021<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student governors \u2013 Taylor Arnt, Yvonne Osagie, Alaine Spiwak and Eliza Wohlbold for one-year terms effective July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community-at-large members \u2013 Dan Fortin, Konrad von Finckenstein and Beth Creary for three-year terms effective July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2021<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alumni \u2013 Jay Nordenstrom and Gail Garland for two-year terms effective July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2020<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Renewals \u2013 Jim Durrell and Christina Gold for second three-year terms effective July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2021<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"committee-chair-updates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Committee Chair Updates:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"building-program-committee\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Building Program Committee<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dale Craig reported that the committee last met on May 3, 2018 and discussed the Dominion-Chalmers United Church, Advanced Research and Innovation in Smart Environments (ARISE), the Nicol Building, Health Sciences Building, the Annual Environmental Health and Safety report, and project management improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"finance-committee\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Finance Committee<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bob Wener noted the committee had a joint meeting with the Building Program committee regarding the Nicol Building in May. He provided a positive report on the university\u2019s cash flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"governance-committee\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Governance Committee<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ken Evans reported that the committee met on May 24, 2018 to discuss the best practices review and the 2017-\u201818 Board Assessment results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"academic-governance-of-the-university-joint-policy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Academic Governance of the University Joint Policy:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Modifications to the Academic Governance of the University Joint Policy were approved upon recommendation of Senate. Changes include edits to the listing of ex-officio members, a clarification of the student member composition on Senate, updated language about the eligibility of students seeking election to the Senate, revised language about meeting notifications and electronic voting, and updated naming of Senate\u2019s standing committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"report-from-the-chair\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Report from the Chair:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On behalf of all of the Board of Governors, I thanked Dr. Alastair Summerlee, interim president and vice-chancellor, for his contributions and service to the Carleton community in the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also welcomed Nik Nanos as Chair of the Board of Governors for 2018-\u201819 and Dan Fortin as Board Vice-Chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I step down as Chair, it is a time for reflection. The University Secretary has provided an annual report for 2017-\u201818 that can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/secretariat\/annual-report\/\">here<\/a>. I would like to thank the Carleton community for allowing me to serve this excellent university and the many Carleton community members who supported myself and the board in the past year. Thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"report-from-the-interim-president-and-vice-chancellor\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Report from the Interim President and Vice-Chancellor:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The president\u2019s report included an update on his performance, the Dominion-Chalmers United Church and a succession plan. President Summerlee thanked Carleton students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and community partners for the support provided to him in the last year and extended his best wishes to incoming President and Vice-Chancellor Bacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"comprehensive-campaign-update\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Comprehensive Campaign Update:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign total to date is $270,160,776. The campaign is at 90 per cent of the $300-million goal. A total of $517,684 has been raised in this fiscal year with a number of engagement events planned in the summer and during Throwback celebrations from September 10 to 17, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nik Nanos, Vice-Chair of the Board, thanked Alastair Summerlee for his leadership and service during his time as Interim President and Vice-Chancellor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the meeting, the annual board dinner was held. At the dinner, I thanked departing board members who were concluding their terms of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"upcoming-meeting\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Upcoming Meeting:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Board of Governors meeting is scheduled for Sept. 25, 2018.
