The benefit will be in effect up to the fifth year of the PhD program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are taking this important step to attract and retain the very best international doctoral students at Carleton,&#8221; says Benoit-Antoine Bacon, President and Vice-Chancellor. &#8220;These scholars are major contributors to our academic mission and we are pleased to be able to offer this additional financial support.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is excellent news for our international PhD students,&#8221; says Matthias Neufang, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs. &#8220;Removing financial barriers allows them to concentrate more fully on their studies and the cutting-edge research they conduct.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton has more than 190 international PhD students coming from over 40 countries. \u201cCarleton\u2019s international doctoral students have a tremendously positive impact in Canada,\u201d says Jerry Tomberlin, Interim Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at Carleton. &#8220;Through their active engagement in the University\u2019s research enterprise, they have made many breakthroughs with significant benefits for society.
