His current research deals with the role of legislatures in democratic civil-military relations.&nbsp; He teaches courses on contemporary international security, civil-military relations and U.S. foreign and defence policy. He is an international affairs expert and has expertise in Canadian foreign policy and global governance, international organization, international negotiation and conflict resolution and analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>David Carment<\/strong><br>\nProfessor of International Affairs, Norman Paterson School of International Affairs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Email<\/strong>:&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:david.carment@carleton.ca\"><strong>david.carment@carleton.ca<\/strong><strong><br>\n<\/strong><\/a><br>\nCarment is a NATO fellow and is listed in Who\u2019s Who in International Affairs. He serves as the principal investigator for the Country Indicators for Foreign Policy project (CIFP). He is the editor of&nbsp;<em>Canadian Foreign Policy Journal&nbsp;<\/em>and is a fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has served as the director of Carleton\u2019s former Centre for Security and Defence Studies (now part of the Centre for Security, Intelligence and Defence Studies). He has received SSHRC fellowships and research awards, Carleton\u2019s Research Achievement Award and a Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award. He has held fellowships at the Kennedy School, Harvard and the Hoover Institution, Stanford. She currently teaches courses on nation-building, as well as nationalism and ethnic conflict in central and eastern Europe.
