Carleton University Prof. Ummni Khan, of the Department of Law and Legal Studies<\/a> and joint chair of the Pauline Jewett Institute of Women\u2019s and Gender Studies<\/a>, will host the symposium Always a Zero-Sum Game?: Exploring the Tensions Between Academic Freedom and Anti-Oppression<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When<\/strong>: Monday, Sept. 24, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
\nWhere<\/strong>: Room 2017, Dunton Tower, Carleton University
\nInfo<\/strong>: This event is free and open to the public. Registration is available online.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This symposium aims to create an open and respectful dialogue about tensions, real or perceived, between academic freedom and anti-oppression principles. Using examples of when these two principles have clashed at Canadian universities, stakeholders with divergent viewpoints will discuss the incident, analyze the broader political implications and develop strategies for responding when conflicts arise in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
