The panel was moderated by Emily Borzcik, a senior program officer at IIE-SRF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Bahran first arrived on campus with his wife and two children in August, he said he was awed by its natural beauty and then by the warm welcome he received from the Carleton community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe minute I arrived, I could see how vibrant and welcoming Carleton is,\u201d said Bahran. \u201cThe beauty of this is incredible for a person who has been displaced.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bahran is a visiting professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/physics.carleton.ca\/\">Department of Physics<\/a>. In addition to teaching, he will participate in events, work with students, deliver lectures and contribute to research programs. Bahran will also assist with the department\u2019s drop-in centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surkhi, who has been at Carleton for a year, will continue to research at the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/slals\/\">School of Linguistics and Language Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am proud to work at a university that protects threatened scholars and their ideas,\u201d said Prof. Melanie Adrian, chair of Carleton\u2019s Scholars at Risk committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Scholars at Risk Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAR program supports academics who are at risk in their home countries and offers them a unique opportunity to teach and interact with colleagues and students in safe environments.
