Carleton experts are available to comment on the rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine following the capture of ships in the Kerch Strait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Carment<\/strong>

Carment is a NATO fellow and is listed in Who\u2019s Who in International Affairs. He serves as the principal investigator for the Country Indicators for Foreign Policy project (CIFP). He is the editor of Canadian Foreign Policy Journal<\/em> and is a fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has served as the director of Carleton\u2019s former Centre for Security and Defence Studies (now part of the Centre for Security, Intelligence and Defence Studies). He has received SSHRC fellowships and research awards, Carleton\u2019s Research Achievement Award and a Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award. He has held fellowships at the Kennedy School, Harvard and the Hoover Institution, Stanford. He currently heads a team of researchers that evaluates policy effectiveness in failed and fragile states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikolko is an expert in post-Soviet ethnicity and diaspora. She currently teaches courses on nation-building, as well as nationalism and ethnic conflict in central and eastern Europe. Her research includes Russia-Ukraine relations, the Ukrainian crisis and minorities\u2019 politics in both countries; trauma and victimization in diasporas; social capital and diaspora networks; and post-Soviet diasporas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sahadeo is an expert on Eastern European, Russian and Central Asian politics. His teaching interests include diaspora, migration and empires in Eastern Europe and Asia. Sahadeo works on issues of colonialism, nationality, frontiers and borders in relations to power, and the creation of identities and states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sahadeo\u2019s current research focuses on issues of migration and inter-ethnic contact between Asian populations of the (former) Soviet Union and majority Russians in the cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow in the post-Second World War era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
