McMillan’s legacy will be a significant contribution to our understanding of Russian history, politics and society at a critical time in international affairs.”

With matching funds from the university, McMillan’s gift will establish an endowment fund to attract an established scholar to Carleton and support teaching and research activities. As a full-time faculty member, the McMillan Chair will teach undergraduate and graduate classes, mentor graduate students conducting research within EURUS, produce original research and organize outreach activities such as public lectures and conferences.

McMillan joined Carleton in 1968 after a career in the United States Navy and the U.S. Foreign Service. He was one of the first directors of the program that eventually became EURUS, and is pleased to put in place an endowed gift to support the institute’s priorities in perpetuity.

“Teaching at Carleton was a gift,” he said. “I hope the chair will contribute to the long-term growth and success of the institute.”

Carleton will conduct an international search for the McMillan Chair in Russian Studies, with an expected start date in 2020.

Media Contact
Steven Reid
Media Relations Officer
Carleton University
613-520-2600, ext. 8718
613-265-6613
Steven_Reid3@Carleton.ca

Carleton University announced today a donation from Prof. Emeritus Carl McMillan to establish the McMillan Chair in Russian Studies, an endowed research chair in Carleton’s Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS). “We are so grateful for this gift and for McMillan’s confidence in Carleton,” said André Plourde, dean, Faculty of Public Affairs. “Like […]

[1
119,93,91
post-55450","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-releases","tag-eurus","tag-faculty-of-public-affairs","tag-research
["GET
