\n Carleton University Art Gallery to Celebrate Opening of Summer 2019 Exhibitions\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG) will host a party celebrating the opening of two summer exhibitions<\/a>, Marlene Creates: Places, Paths, and Pauses <\/em>and On Location: Human Interventions in the Landscape,<\/em> as well as the launch of its newest catalogue, Robert Houle: Pahgedenaun.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When<\/strong>: Tuesday, May 21, 2019, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., opening remarks are at 6 p.m.
\nWhere<\/strong>: Carleton University Art Gallery, St. Patrick\u2019s Building, Carleton University
\nInfo<\/strong>: This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the opening celebration, CUAG will launch Robert Houle: Pahgedenaun<\/em>, a catalogue co-published with the School of Art Gallery at the University of Manitoba, and schoolhouse<\/em>, a limited-edition print produced by the School of Art Gallery. Publication sale proceeds will be donated to Minwaashin Lodge, an Indigenous women\u2019s support centre in Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curated by Susan Gibson Garvey and Andrea Kunard, the retrospective Marlene Creates: Places, Paths, and Pauses <\/em>features photographs, videos, assemblages and installations created across four decades by the Newfoundland-based environmental artist and poet Marlene Creates. Over the years, Creates has engaged with the landscape around her, exploring the idea of place as a layered process that involves memories, experiences, narratives and knowledge. The exhibition is organized by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in partnership with the Dalhousie Art Gallery, with generous support from the Museums Assistance Program of Canadian Heritage and from the Canada Council for the Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Location: Human Interventions in the Landscape<\/em> is curated by a graduate student team enrolled in CURA 5001, a curatorial studies seminar taught by Prof. St\u00e9phane Roy. It features the work of artists Lorraine Gilbert, Stephen Livick and John Pfahl, who made photographs \u201con location,\u201d reflecting on their relationships to particular sites and on the impacts of humans on the natural world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access notice:<\/strong> CUAG is an accessible space. The elevator in St. Patrick\u2019s Building is currently being upgraded. Visitors who require an elevator can use the one in Stormont-Dundas Residence. Please contact victoria.mcglinchey@carleton.ca<\/a> for assistance and details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
