Thousands of Carleton Students to Receive Degrees<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carleton University will install its 12th<\/sup> Chancellor, Yaprak Baltacio\u011flu, at spring Convocation and present seven honorary degrees at ceremonies on Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baltacio\u011flu, whose appointment was announced last December, is an alumna and accomplished public sector leader who has been a trailblazer, adviser and mentor for civil servants across Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs we prepare to celebrate the hard work and success of our students, we are thrilled to celebrate the installation of one of Carleton\u2019s most distinguished graduates as our chancellor,\u201d says President Benoit-Antoine Bacon. \u201cI know that the thousands of our soon-to-be-alumni will appreciate the words of wisdom offered by our new chancellor and our seven esteemed honorary doctorate recipients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 4,800 undergraduate and graduate students will receive their degrees at the university Fieldhouse over five days. One ceremony will be held on Monday afternoon, and two ceremonies will be held on each of the next four days. Morning ceremonies take place at 9:30 a.m. and afternoon ceremonies begin at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media are invited to attend. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremonies will be broadcast online via live streaming at carleton.ca\/convocation\/live<\/a><\/u>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Convocation\u2019s first ceremony of the week will feature the installation of Chancellor Yaprak Baltacio\u011flu.

\nTuesday, June 11, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diana Beresford-Kroeger will be recognized for her outstanding efforts towards preserving the Earth\u2019s climate and forests through the use of ethical scientific and traditional concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday, June 11, at the 2 p.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chancellor Baltacio\u011flu will deliver a Convocation address for graduates of her home faculty, Public Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday, June 12, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robert Slater will be recognized for his distinguished career in the Public Service of Canada, spearheading initiatives for the protection of the air and water and inspiring a new generation of Canadians to environmental leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday, June 12, at the 2 p.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christina Louise Logue will be recognized for her outstanding contributions and leadership in achieving change in the social, health and economic conditions of Indigenous peoples, and at-risk children, youth, and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, June 13, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laurie Beachell will be recognized for his transformative leadership in advancing the equality rights of Canadians with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, June 13, at the 2 p.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robert Thirsk will be recognized for his outstanding career as a Canadian astronaut, his many contributions to scientific and health research, and his promotion of science education and lifelong learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday, June 14, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony<\/strong>

\n<\/strong>Paul Martin will be recognized for his leadership in the Canadian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday, June 14, at the 2 p.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yazmine Laroche will be recognized for her distinguished career in the federal public service and, in particular, her significant contribution to greatly improved accessibility for all Canadians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
