She was appointed to the position on December 4, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou see, love is riches that cannot be measured in dollars,\u201d said Baltacio\u011flu. \u201cAnd that is what Canada has been for me. For countless immigrants before and after me, Canada has been a love story \u2013 a place of refuge. A place of welcome. A place of opportunity. And not only did I get to live in one of the most wonderful countries on Earth, I also got to work in Canada\u2019s extraordinary public service. And the public service has been the entity through which I reciprocated my love for Canada for more than a generation. And I am hoping to reciprocate to Carleton through my role as its Chancellor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Board of Governors Chair Nik Nanos introduced Baltacio\u011flu and led the Chancellor oath as she affirmed her commitment to Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA Carleton grad with a distinguished career spanning more than 25 years in roles of increasing responsibility, Yaprak shaped federal policy, oversaw programs and operations, led transformation, contributed to numerous senior committees, and influenced the direction of government affairs at the highest levels of decision-making,\u201d said Nanos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baltac\u0131o\u011flu, who retired in April 2018, was one of Ottawa\u2019s most seasoned deputy ministers and served as a trusted adviser to four prime ministers and many cabinet ministers and departmental officials on programs, issues, legislation and matters of policy focused on the economy, treasury, transportation, infrastructure, security, agriculture, health care and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Istanbul University and an Institute of Corporate Directors Designation from the Kotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She obtained a master\u2019s degree from the School of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, Baltacio\u011flu will address graduates from her home faculty who are preparing to embark on their careers.
