The community is invited to follow the progress as the artist works, applying and blending every colour by hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event is part of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/leonardo2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Cinquecento: Carleton Celebrates Leonardo da Vinci<\/em><\/a>.<br>\n<strong><br>\nMedia are invited to visit the portrait while it is being created.<\/strong><br>\n<strong><br>\nWhen<\/strong>: Thursday, Sept. 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.<br>\n<strong>Where<\/strong>: Galleria, Fourth Floor University Centre, Carleton<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The artist will use pavement art pastel techniques on a special canvas. These unconventional methods allow the artist to saturate the surface with pigments and different textures in an attempt to capture da Vinci\u2019s unique <em>sfumato<\/em> (a blending technique) and <em>chiaroscuro<\/em> (the use of strong contrasts of light and darkness).<br>\n<strong><br>\nAbout Francois Pelletier<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pelletier has been a pavement artist for more than 20 years. He has polished his craft around the globe, studying the compositions and color palettes of many major artworks \u2013 from da Vinci, Caravaggio and Delacroix among others \u2013 in museums, churches and other institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Cinquecento: Carleton Celebrates Leonardo da Vinci<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cinquecento: Carleton Celebrates Leonardo da Vinci&nbsp;<\/em>is a year-long celebration that looks at da Vinci\u2019s work with fresh eyes. In Italian, \u201cCinquecento\u201d means 500 and, for this series of events, refers to the 500 years since his passing.
