I know we will all take inspiration from Dr. Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be two ceremonies at the University Fieldhouse. The morning ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Media are invited to attend. The ceremonies will be broadcast online via live streaming at <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/convocation\/live\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>carleton.ca\/convocation\/live<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Contact <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:Elizabeth.Murphy@carleton.ca\"><strong>Elizabeth.Murphy@carleton.ca<\/strong><\/a><strong> for availability of the honorary degree recipient and afternoon speaker.<br>\n<\/strong><br>\n<strong>Saturday, Nov. 9, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turpel-Lafond will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of her commitment to improving supports for Indigenous people and addressing the needs of children and youth involved in the justice system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her story is a compelling one. From a childhood of poverty and violence, she went on to earn a BA at Carleton, a law degree from Osgoode Hall, a master\u2019s degree in international law from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate of law from Harvard Law School. Her career has focused on helping to protect children and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Saturday, Nov. 9, at the 2 p.m. ceremony<br>\n<\/strong><br>\nLenore Fahrig, Chancellor&#8217;s Professor in Carleton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Biology<\/a>, will address&nbsp; graduands at the afternoon ceremony. Fahrig\u2019s work has created paradigm shifts in research on habitat connectivity and fragmentation, road ecology and sustainable agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is a trailblazer in these fields, with one of the highest citation rates in ecology, including the world\u2019s most-cited paper on habitat fragmentation.
