Celebrating the legacy of Burton, the honour is given to a student who has made a significant contribution toward awareness, equality and integration of people with disabilities within the educational community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s recipient, third-year Carleton student Rebecca Andr\u00e9, will be recognized as an outstanding advocate for accessible education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When<\/strong>: Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.<br>\n<strong>Where<\/strong>: Carleton University Art Gallery, St. Patrick\u2019s Building, Carleton University<br>\n<strong>Info<\/strong>: Registration is required and is <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/dr-john-davis-burton-award-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available online<\/a>. A campus map can be <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campus\/map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Media are invited to attend the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andr\u00e9\u2019s dedication to positively impacting the community for others sets her apart as an advocate, leader and innovator for accessibility, equity and growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a full-time student, Andr\u00e9 balances her many contributions to the Carleton community. During her first year at Carleton, she started to volunteer with the PMC and has served as a student ambassador for the former Carleton University Accessible Experiential Learning program \u2013 now known as <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/act\/students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACT to Employ<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This award recognizes select post-secondary students from Algonquin College, Carleton University, La Cit\u00e9 Coll\u00e9giale and the University of Ottawa for their exceptional contributions to accessibility within their institution and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About John Davis Burton<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Burton championed and advocated for people with disabilities \u2013 making significant contributions to increasing awareness, equality and integration throughout his career as an educator and co-ordinator of educational support services. He was dedicated to equal access to education, believing in training for educators as well as support services for students.
