\n Carleton to Host Vitruvian Man as Renaissance Selfie: a Cross-Cultural Reading by H. Masud Taj\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University will host a reading on Vitruvian Man, arguably the most famous diagram in the world. The presentation is part of Cinquecento: Carleton Celebrates Leonardo da Vinci<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diagram interfaces geometry and anatomy, humanity and nature, architecture and cosmos, microcosm and macrocosm. It transcends the ancient architect Vitruvius\u2019 text and intersects with ideas prevalent among Leonardo\u2019s contemporaries, at the threshold of modernity. Interweaving many strands of history and encapsulating the diverse interests of Leonardo, his Vitruvian Man was Renaissance\u2019s archetypal selfie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About H. Masud Taj<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taj, award-winning professor at Carleton\u2019s Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism<\/a>, lectures on Muslim civilization at the Centre of Initiatives in Education<\/a>. He previously taught Art History for two years at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) working with the Renaissance collection of the National Gallery of Canada, leading to his nomination as TV Ontario\u2019s Best Lecturer. He delivered the Faculty of Public Affairs (FPA) Research Series talk Leonardo Da Vinci: From Baghdad to Bayezid. His book Embassy of Liminal Spaces interfacing architecture, poetry and calligraphy<\/em>, was permanently installed in Canadian Chancery, Bangalore, India and inducted into Canada\u2019s Library of Parliament. Last year he went on a two-month, round-the-world lecture tour, leaving via the Atlantic and returning via the Pacific, visiting 16 cities and holding 13 events pertaining to architecture and poetry, including an exhibition of his calligraphy in Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
