\n Carleton\u2019s Winnie Ye and Richard Yu Awarded Engineering Institute of Canada Fellowships\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Two members of the Carleton University faculty have been named Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) Fellows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winnie Ye<\/a>, professor and Canada Research Chair (CRC) in the Department of Electronics<\/a> and Richard Yu<\/a>, professor in the Carleton School of Information Technology<\/a> (CSIT), will be inducted as Fellows for their exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada on April 18, 2020 as part of EIC\u2019s Annual Gala\/ Banquet at the Hilton Lac-Leamy hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EIC will also announce the winning recipients of its 2020 senior engineering awards during the gala. The senior awards are the highest distinctions made by the institute and are awarded to deserving members of its 12 constituent societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ye is the CRC in in Nano-scale IC Design for Reliable Opto-Electronics and Sensors. Her expertise is in silicon photonics and its applications in telecommunications, data communication, biophotonics and renewable energy. Ye returned to Carleton as a faculty member in 2009. She recived the Ministry of Research and Innovation\u2019s Early Researcher Award in 2012 and the Research Achievement Award from Carleton in 2013. She won the 2018 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Women in Engineering Inspiring Member Award, the 2018 Engineering Medal for Research and Development from Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), as well as the PEO Ottawa Chapter’s 2018 Engineering Excellence Award. In 2019, she became a Carleton teaching fellow after receiving the Provost’s Fellowship in Teaching Award. She is the elected chair of the IEEE Ottawa Section and she is the newly elected chair of the Photonics and Opto-Electronics Technical Division of the Optical Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yu joined CSIT and the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering<\/a> in 2007. His research interests include cybersecurity, connected and autonomous vehicles, blockchain and machine learning. He has written more than 500 papers, seven books, and 28 granted patents, with more than 10,000 citations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He serves on the editorial boards of a number of journals and is a registered professional engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and, a Fellow of the IEEE. He serves as chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Green Communications and Computing and the chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society \u2013 Ottawa Chapter. He is an elected member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. The Web of Science Group identified him as a Highly Cited Researcher in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
