\n Carleton to Host Second Annual Inclusion Week\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University is hosting its second annual Inclusion Week<\/a>, featuring a broad array of events from Oct. 19 to 23, 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organized by Carleton\u2019s Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities<\/a> (EIC), Inclusion Week will raise visibility and awareness of the value of human rights and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). It will also prompt an exploration of practical ways to integrate those principles into Carleton\u2019s organizational structures and culture, and promote prosperity in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our new Strategic Integrated Plan<\/a>, launched on Sept. 30, outlines a commitment to work together in ways that demonstrate our commitment to EDI.  Our forthcoming Institutional EDI Action Plan<\/a> looks to set a national standard for best practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday, Oct. 19<\/strong>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong>A conversation with Navdeep Bains, minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, <\/strong>about the government\u2019s work to further national progress on EDI and the role the university sector should play. The interview will be released on the Inclusion Week website<\/a> on Oct. 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday, Oct. 21<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Neuroscience of Inclusion<\/a> panel\u2014moderated by Department of Neuroscience Chair Kim Hellemans\u2014features guest speakers, including Sonia Guerriero (UNESCO, France) and Yvette Cozier (Boston University School of Public Health). Participants will gain greater insight into the development of more inclusive teaching and curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, Oct. 22<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moderated by Tara Connolly, assistant director, Research and Development from Carleton\u2019s Research, Education and Accessibility Design<\/a> team, the Accessibility in Times of Transition<\/a> panel features speakers from across the university who will be joined by timsle.com founder Quayce Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, Oct. 22<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The African Diaspora in the Academy<\/a>, will be moderated by Carleton\u2019s Michael Charles, assistant vice-president and university advisor, and features Carleton Profs. Joy Mighty and Daniel McNeil, University of Toronto Profs. Janelle Joseph and Charmaine Nelson and McGill University respectively, as well as Brock University President Gervan Fearon. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
