\n Meet the 2020 Winners of Carleton\u2019s Graduate Student Three Minute Thesis Contest\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University has announced the winners of its 2020 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. The top three winners of the virtual event are Nada Elnahla, Robbie Venis and Annemarie Dedek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elnahla,a PhD student in Management at the Sprott School of Business<\/a>, won first place for her research project Surveillance in Retail<\/em>. Second place went to Venis, a PhD student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering<\/a>, for his project When Local Women Take the Lead: Water Technology Adoption in Rural Tanzania<\/em><\/a>. Dedek, a PhD student in the Department of Neuroscience<\/a>, was awarded third place for her project Developing Better Strategies for Preclinical Chronic Pain Research<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elnahla\u2019s video is being entered into the provincial competition, and the winner of that virtual competition should be announced later in December. Further to the competition rules, we will share her video once the provincial results have been announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded by the University of Queensland in Australia, 3MT celebrates graduate student research and takes place at universities around the world. Participants summarize their research in no more than 180 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The judges score the 12 competitors on best communication style, comprehension and engagement for a chance to win $1,000 (first), $500 (second) and $250 (third).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s competition was originally scheduled for March but was delayed until the fall due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
