She is the author of&nbsp;<em>Own It, Your Success, Your Life, Your Future<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She served as the deputy head of Status of Women Canada, managing the departmental agency and providing advice to ministers. She led the development of public policy for the advancement of women and helped non-profits seek funding to benefit women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Julie Garlen<\/strong><br>\nCo-Director, Childhood and Youth Studies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Email:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:julie.garlen@carleton.ca\">julie.garlen@carleton.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garlen is available to discuss education and social\/cultural inequalities, justice-oriented approaches to education and changing experiences of and beliefs about childhood and education in light of COVID-19. Her research interests include exploring the ways cultural discourses shape the lives of children through ideologies of race, class, gender and sexuality. Garlen recently published a piece for <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Conversation<\/a> about how <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/joe-biden-and-kamala-harris-could-transform-american-childhood-150112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Biden and Kamala Harris could transform American childhood.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Boris Vukovic <\/strong><br>\nDirector, Research, Education, Accessibility, and Design (READ) Initiative<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Email:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:boris.vukovic@carleton.ca\">boris.vukovic@carleton.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vukovic is available to speak about universal design for learning and accessibility in higher education for postsecondary students with disabilities. He has worked at Carleton for over 15 years supporting the success of students with disabilities \u2013 through leadership, direct student services, faculty development, applied research, and professional standards. Vukovic has done research related to inclusive teaching practices of university faculty and disability-related assessments, and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses. He is a member of the American Educational Research Association, Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. In his role as the director of the Research, Education, Accessibility and Design Initiative, Vukovic is committed to helping position Carleton as a national leader in accessibility.
