March 31 marks International Trans Day of Visibility<\/a> and Carleton experts are available to speak with journalists about related topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abigail E. Curlew<\/strong>
\nPhD candidate, Department of Sociology and Anthropology<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curlew is a journalist, doctoral researcher and transgender feminist who specializes in advocacy around LGBTQ+ human rights, surveillance studies and research around social media, doxxing, and trolls. Using a blend of ethnography and investigative journalism, her doctoral work seeks to illuminate practices of vitriolic digital vigilantes as they go about the work of bullying, harassment and other transgressive practices. She is currently writing a book titled DIY Gender Police: Doxxing, (Trans)Misogyny, and the Blight of Far-Right Digital Abuse<\/em> for Between the Lines Press and funded by the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) which should debut in the coming year. Curlew is available to speak about most topics related to trans people, with an expertise in trans women issues and anti-trans hatred and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan Irving<\/strong>
\nProfessor, The Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies (IIS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irving is a transgender man who teaches in the Human Rights and Sexuality Studies programs in IIS. His research is located within the interdisciplinary field of trans studies and focuses on underemployment and unemployment among trans populations. He has presented findings to academic, professional and public audiences. Irving is the co-editor of Trans Activism in Canada: A Reader<\/em> (with Rupert Raj) published by Canadian Scholar\u2019s Press.  His work has been published in Transgender Studies Reader 2<\/em>, Sexuality Studies<\/em> and Australian Feminist Studies<\/em>. Irving serves on the board of Egale Canada<\/a> (secretary).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
